New funding program successful - strengthening urban districts

The declared aim was to promote togetherness in the neighborhood, revitalize the district, strengthen its image and improve the quality of life: "We have supported 30 projects so far with a funding amount of 175,000 euros," says Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, "A great success!"

The "Guideline for the promotion of measures with an increased need for action" was adopted by the city council in December 2023.

The Johanniterhaus am See and Awira im Fredenberg were the first facilities to receive money from this funding program in 2024. The Johanniterhaus has purchased a rickshaw. Awira received an awning for its terrace.

Other projects from Müze, NOW Stadtteiltreff Caritasverband, Stadtteiltreff Diakonie, CaJuLe, Caritasverband, DRK Salzgitter, Diakonie "Treffpunkt To Go", WoWi SZ-Lebenstedt, katholische. Family Education Center and the Fredenberg Forum followed.

The ideas of the applicants are diverse: play equipment, children's camp, district festivals, youth club equipment, brochures, equipment for a cargo bike, garden furniture and much more.

"With the guideline for the promotion of measures with an increased need for action, we can promote projects from which - and this is particularly important to me - all people in the neighborhood benefit," emphasizes Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and appeals to citizens, institutions and neighborhood meetings to submit applications. "Because local people know best what is needed."

Funding can be approved in particular for

  • Measures as tangible investments such as the purchase and installation of waste garbage cans, bicycle racks, play equipment or signage.
  • Measures that are not material investments, but socially integrative measures, intercultural measures such as leisure activities, creative courses, district festivals, etc.

The application process is simple. Anyone with questions can contact the Department for Urban Redevelopment and Social City, Martina Hänsch,martina.haenschstadt.salzgitterde or phone: 05341/839-3386.
