On site were the Second Mayor Christian Striese, the First City Councillor and Head of the Fire Department Eric Neiseke, City Planning Officer Michael Tacke, Local Fire Chief Marc Borchardt, City Fire Chief Detlev Söhler as well as employees of the commissioned planning office and the building management, purchasing and logistics company. Numerous members of the Salzgitter-Thiede volunteer fire department were also present at the launch of this important construction project.
Second Mayor Christian Striese represented Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel. He emphasized: "This modern new building is estimated to cost around 5.3 million euros. This is a major investment in the future of our volunteer fire brigades and the largest investment in the infrastructure of the Thieder Wehr to date. I am grateful to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Digitalization for the funding of 630,000 euros."
Local fire chief Marc Borchardt added in his welcoming address: "The construction is a clear commitment to the volunteer fire department and a great appreciation of our important task."
The new fire station building is urgently needed because the old fire station is no longer big enough and renovating or extending the existing building would have been more expensive. The planned fire station with around 1,120 square meters of space offers room for six fire engines in the vehicle hall and a large storage room with workshop area. There are also plans for a large changing area with showers and toilets and for the storage of personal protective equipment. A large divisible training room and an additional smaller group room are planned for the training and exercise service.
The building will have underfloor heating and will be heated by a heat pump. A photovoltaic system is planned for the roof of the vehicle hall. The social wing will have a green roof to improve the microclimate. Completion of the fire station is planned for June/July 2027.
