Salzgitter

Registration has started: CITY CYCLING and SCHOOL CYCLING 2026

All cycling enthusiasts are invited to take part in the two cycling competitions CITY CYCLING and SCHOOL CYCLING 2026 from Pentecost Sunday, May 24 to Saturday, June 13.

The CITY CYCLING website www.stadtradeln.de/salzgitter (opens in a new tab) is already open for registration. All citizens can take part in this city cycling competition and cycle as many kilometers as possible for their city.

The organizer for the urban area is the city of Salzgitter. The "Climate Alliance" organizes the entire international cycling competition. Organized every year, local politicians and citizens worldwide pedal for more climate protection and cycling in the alliance's worldwide CITY CYCLING competition.

In Salzgitter, CITY CYCLING and SCHOOL CYCLING are supported by sponsor Nicole Mölling from Volksbank BraWo and sponsor Sven Strube from Radstudio Salzgitter.

How can you take part in CITY CYCLING or SCHOOL CYCLING?

The principle is simple: after a short registration on the website www.stadtradeln.de/salzgitter (opens in a new tab) or via the CITY CYCLING app www.stadtradeln.de/app, all participants are called upon to cover as many everyday journeys as possible by bike and leave the car behind. The aim is to cover as many kilometers as possible. You can start collecting kilometers at any time after the start of the cycling event.

Registration is now open at www.stadtradeln.de/salzgitter. You can cycle in teams (at least two people), for example with friends, families, colleagues, club mates or schoolmates. For all those who have not yet found a team, there are the local teams (with sub-teams for all 31 districts) and the "Open Team Salzgitter". Registrations are still possible after the start of the CITY CYCLING campaign.

The inclusion and participation of all people is very important to the organizers, which is why the journeys and kilometers covered by wheelchair or handbike can also be entered on the website or the CITY CYCLING APP. Walking bikes are also permitted.

Collect kilometers on guided tours

And if you want to rack up as many kilometers as possible, you can collect them in a pleasant way on guided bike tours. In addition to the ADFC and Harzklub Zweigverein Salzgitter, the city history working group also offers one of many guided cycle tours. They can already be found at www.stadtradeln.de/salzgitter (opens in a new tab).

What kind of teams can be formed?

Participants can take part in self-formed teams of at least two active cyclists or in one of the seven local teams. Here, participants have the opportunity to cycle as many kilometers as possible for their locality (north, northeast, northwest, east, south, southeast and west) as a sub-team for their own district. In the end, the total kilometers count both for your own district and for the village. This is particularly interesting for those who would like to participate on their own and are looking for a group to collect their kilometers for.

SCHOOL CYCLING category

The "SCHULRADELN" category is an independent competition within the "STADTRADELN". Here, all pupils, together with parents and teachers, can collect kilometers for their Salzgitter school.

Prizes for the most successful participants

For both the CITY CYCLING and the SCHOOL CYCLING, the organization team of the cycling competition, together with Radstudio Salzgitter and Volksbank BraWo, will once again award prizes for the most successful participants with the most kilometers and the teams with the most average kilometers.

For the first time, climate coins will also be awarded to the most successful participants with the most kilometers. These can be redeemed for offers in participating stores. Further information on the year-round Climate Thaler campaign can be found at www.salzgitter.de/leben/klimaschutz-klimataler.php (opens in a new tab).

Closing event for CITY CYCLING and SCHOOL CYCLING

The winners of the respective CITY CYCLING and SCHOOL CYCLING categories will be announced at the closing event after the summer vacations. The new organization team will announce when and where this will be in good time before the summer vacations.

What is CITY CYCLING actually?

municipal parliaments to pedal as a role model for climate protection and to campaign for greater promotion of cycling. Together with citizens, they should collect as many bicycle kilometers as possible for their municipality. The campaign aims to raise citizens' awareness of cycling in everyday life and bring the topics of bicycle use and bicycle traffic planning more strongly into local parliaments.

Since 2017, cities, municipalities and districts outside Germany have also been able to take part in the campaign on 21 consecutive days between May and September. There are awards and high-quality prizes to be won - but above all a liveable environment with less traffic congestion, fewer exhaust fumes and less noise.

What is the Climate Alliance?

For more than 25 years, the member municipalities of the Climate Alliance have been working with their indigenous partners in the rainforests to protect the global climate.

With around 1,700 members in over 25 countries, the Climate Alliance is the world's largest network of cities dedicated to climate protection and the only one to set concrete targets: Each Climate Alliance municipality has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by ten percent every five years. As the lifestyles of people living in the northern hemisphere have a direct impact on particularly endangered peoples and places, the Climate Alliance combines local action with global responsibility.
