What documents are in the city archive and how can I use them? Around 100 citizens asked these and many other questions last Saturday at the open day in the Salzgitter city archive.

On the occasion of the nationwide Day of Archives, the team from the city archive presented its rooms and work: Around 100 guests were given a variety of insights into the city archive's holdings, its tasks and the opportunities to find out more about the city's history. The guests were just as happy to get advice on how to research their own family history and puzzled over the "In the past" and "Today" photo games.

The book stall, where local history publications were on sale, was particularly popular. Many guests also took advantage of the offer to view a newspaper edition from the last few decades on microfilm on the computer.

Special thanks go to the Ortsheimatpfleger, who presented their important voluntary work and were happy to answer questions about the districts.

The guests were grateful for the many insights into the history and the look behind the scenes of the city archive. Conclusion: A successful, informative and varied event.
