Salzgitter

Salzgitter before its first Energy Days

Following the first Climate Protection Day Salzgitter in June 2013, the Energy Days are now set to make their debut in the regional center from September 24 to October 1.

The city, Energiekompetenzzentrum Salzgitter, WEVG and Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung (WIS) will provide information on topics relating to energy saving and funding opportunities with an ambitious program. There will be an exhibition in the atrium of the town hall and specialist presentations by high-caliber speakers.

According to city councillor Michael Tacke, the Energy Days are a further building block in the local climate protection concept. They showed that this topic is a high priority, especially in an industrial location like Salzgitter. The city itself has invested around 35 million in energy-related measures in its public buildings since 2008 - primarily in the refurbishment of schools - and has thus also made a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.

According to Tacke, gas consumption has fallen from 3,5759 MWh to around 28,000 MWh during this period. However, the 26 percent increase in the price of oil and gas counteracted this trend in the energy cost calculation. Nevertheless, a calculation has been made according to which annual savings of 320,000 euros are possible. The bills for electricity and water were also significantly lower.

For WIS, Managing Director Thomas Wetzel makes it clear: "In view of rising energy prices, energy efficiency offers almost every medium-sized and smaller company the opportunity to reduce cost pressure and thus strengthen competitiveness.

"As a local energy service provider, WEVG will be represented with an information stand focusing on natural gas and electromobility as well as in-house and nationwide subsidies for energy saving," explains Rainer Krause, Commercial Director of the company. On the opening day, WEVG customer advisors will be available to answer questions in the atrium of the town hall and then at the two customer centers in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad. Vehicle models will also be on display at the 1st Energy Days. Questions will also be answered at the WEVG theme evening on September 26 and interested parties are very welcome," said Krause.

On behalf of the Energy Competence Center, Chairman Reinhard Voges emphasized that Salzgitter is taking on a pioneering role in Lower Saxony with this event. Salzgitter has a high potential of experts in this sector, "but often one does not know about the other". Now there is a forum for getting to know each other, for which he expressed his appreciation to the council and administration.
