The workshop on Salzgitter's future energy supply kicked off the public participation process in the Kulturscheune. Around 60 citizens took part and contributed their ideas. The result: "One focus should be the refurbishment of existing buildings. We should pay more attention to solar heating and solar power. Wind energy should be expanded moderately," reports Michael Buntfusz, Head of the Environment Department.
These proposals will also be incorporated into the climate protection concept, as will the "KlimaschutSZ-Monitor". This participatory project shows ways in which energy can be saved, costs reduced and climate protection improved. Participation is free of charge. The "KlimaschutSZ-Monitor" online platform is easy to understand and easy to use. "We want to know what it's like for the people of Salzgitter to live in a climate-friendly way and hope that citizens will participate actively so that we can then come up with suggestions for improvements," explains the head of the department.
Specifically, citizens can register online with the MerkWATT office. After receiving their access data, citizens then select five climate protection tips from around 50 that are suitable for them. The areas include nutrition, consumption, mobility, electricity and heating. "Citizens then test the areas they have selected for two weeks," explains Dr. Helen Meyn, a member of staff in the Environment department. The time can be set individually from now until August 25. After two weeks, citizens will answer five simple questions about their experiences, which will then be evaluated anonymously. The results will then be incorporated into the city's climate protection concept.
The "KlimaschutSZ-Monitor" also offers all participants the opportunity to record and monitor their energy consumption. All functions can be used beyond the campaign period until at least the end of the year.
The further timetable for the climate protection concept has already been set: ideas workshops in Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad will follow after the summer vacations. The Energy Week with many events will take place from September 24 to October 1. At the end of the year, those responsible will take stock and want to develop concrete projects with citizens in a workshop on measures.
"We want our citizens to be actively involved. Anyone who has suggestions or ideas relating to the climate protection concept or energy savings can contact us," says Michael Tacke, Head of the City of Salzgitter's Department of Construction, Environment and Transport.
Information: Citizens can now register for the "KlimaschutSZ-Monitor". Simply send an e-mail to: salzgitter.klimaschutzmonitormerkwattde. The access data will follow. Then simply take part! Small gifts will be raffled off among all participants.
