New law on anonymous birth

Women who hide their pregnancy are very afraid to reveal themselves to anyone, they are desperate and isolated. But no woman in Germany has to remain alone with her fear or give birth to her child secretly, without medical assistance.

The law on expanding assistance for pregnant women and regulating confidential births

The aim of the law on expanding assistance for pregnant women and regulating confidential birth is to help women with legal certainty

  • through professional, anonymous advice at any time and sensitive, continuous support before and after the birth in over 1,600 pregnancy advice centers throughout Germany
  • through confidential birth, which, within the spectrum of anonymous help and advice services, enables a protected and medically assisted delivery and gives a child the chance to find out its origins at the age of 16. A basic need of every human being.

The free helpline "Pregnant women in need - anonymous & safe": 0800 / 4040020 is available around the clock and provides help in several languages and - soon - barrier-free. It offers pregnant women initial support and refers them to local pregnancy advice centers.
