The reasons for this are as follows:
- because the financial situation of the City of Salzgitter forces a restrictive approach to assets,
- because the administrative reform that has already been initiated has led to decentralization and will continue to do so
- and because the ever-increasing number of tasks and the resulting burden on the municipalities are forcing them to look for ways out.
For example, the City of Salzgitter also performs its tasks to a considerable extent in public companies, which are managed in particular in the legal form of a limited liability company. The City of Salzgitter currently has direct or indirect holdings in companies in the healthcare, supply and waste disposal, housing, ÖPNV (local public transport), business development and leisure sectors.
