Prostitutes Protection Act

The Act on the Protection of Persons Engaged in Prostitution (Prostitutes Protection Act - ProstSchG) came into force on July 1, 2017.

It aims to better protect those working in prostitution, to strengthen their right to self-determination and to combat crime in prostitution (such as human trafficking, violence against and exploitation of prostitutes and pimping).

In particular, it stipulates that

  • prostitutes must undergo regular health counseling and are subject to compulsory registration, and
  • prostitution businesses may only be operated with a valid permit.
