In 2002, a security partnership was established between the Salzgitter police department and the city of Salzgitter in order to remedy such problems and thus strengthen the residents' subjective sense of security, as well as to provide competent advice and assistance. To this day, a key element of this partnership is joint patrols by uniformed officers from both authorities.
On the municipal side, the number of employees will be increased to a total of 15 members of the municipal public order service (KOD) from November 2018.
This is in response to the growing need for a recognizable presence of uniformed officers and the further improvement of the objective security situation as well as the strengthening of citizens' subjective sense of security.
The employees of the municipal public order service are clearly recognizable in the cityscape. Working in teams of two or on joint patrols with the police, they ensure greater safety in the city simply by their presence.
They prevent disruptive behavior and sanction offences, but also act as a point of contact for all citizens.
Equipped with pedelecs, two innovative
e-cars or even on foot, the KOD is on duty throughout the city.
Among other things, the KOD deals with aggressive begging, unleashed dogs, illegal consumption of intoxicants, including alcohol and tobacco in playgrounds, violations of the Youth Protection Act, disruptive behavior by individuals or groups, graffiti and illegal posters, illegally parked vehicles and much more.
