Salzgitter

15.03.2007 Telephone survey on family friendliness

What expectations do families have of their city? Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel announces a telephone survey.

This will reach around 100 families in randomly selected households with at least one child under the age of 18.

The questions will focus on the areas of upbringing, education, leisure, culture, sport, recreation, housing, construction and transport. Klingebiel: "The interview will last around 20 minutes and is intended to gather personal impressions and expectations regarding Salzgitter's family-friendliness."

According to the Lord Mayor, the project is being carried out on behalf of the Wüstenrot Foundation, which wants to make a contribution to greater family orientation and wants to show the results and effects in a publication. The local lead is being taken by the specialist department for children, youth and family. Salzgitter wants to compare the local working methods and their effects with the reactions of the families. The aim is to improve the various services in the long term.

The family survey is a cooperation project with a comparison ring on the subject of family-friendly cities, in which Bottrop, Erlangen, Hamm, Heilbronn, Kassel, Innsbruck, Kiel, Koblenz, Ludwigshafen, Osnabrück, Paderborn, Recklinghausen, Remscheid, Saarbrücken, Solingen and Wolfsburg have been participating alongside Salzgitter since 2005. It is managed by a database (IKO network) of the Kommunale Gemeinschaftsstelle zur Verwaltungsvereinfachung (KGSt). Using key figures and surveys, the aim is to work out the differences in family friendliness in the cities, learn from them and, if possible, transfer good examples. The network supports the towns and cities in terms of methodology and content.

It is planned to publish the summarized results and conclusions in the second half of the year. The results of the comparison ring will also be discussed in the Council's specialist committees.
