Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel has invited clubs, associations, commercial enterprises, municipal companies and specialist services to a public information event in the Council Chamber on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 5 pm. The guest speaker at the opening event will be Roswitha Wenzl, Children's Commissioner of the City of Stuttgart.
In his invitation to the event, Klingebiel once again emphasizes the high priority of further expanding child and family friendliness as a central focus of municipal policy. For this reason, he had also advertised the position of a children's commissioner as of August 1 of this year. Until this person is selected and appointed, he would like to use the time to take stock of the support, services and ideas already available for children and families in the city due to the outstanding importance of the task.
In a first step, this inventory is to serve as a concept for a child and family-friendly city of Salzgitter and will be published in a publication. Later, in a second part under the leadership of the children's commissioner, the further development with the associated ideas, goals and measures will be developed. The aim is to create a holistic municipal network in order to use and strengthen the existing measures for child and family friendliness more effectively.
"The opening event should be seen as the starting signal. Up to now, the promotion of children and families in Salzgitter has too often taken a back seat, but this will now change. I would like to strengthen the existing child and family friendliness and specifically counteract areas of action that have been identified, such as obesity or child friendliness in road traffic," said the Lord Mayor.
All children, young people and adults in Salzgitter were invited to submit proposals for a children's logo by September 1 in order to redesign child and family-related documents. The submitted works will be publicly exhibited as part of the opening event in the town hall together with the results of a parallel painting campaign. A jury will select the winning logo by September 19. A prize draw will also be held among all participants. There are attractive prizes with a total value of 300 euros to be won.
