Salzgitter

18.08.2008 Kindergarten in Salzgitter free of charge

As of today, August 1, 2008, parents in Salzgitter no longer have to pay parental contributions for the care of their children from the age of 3 until they start school.

As part of Mayor Frank Klingebiel's initiative to develop Salzgitter into one of the most child- and family-friendly cities in Germany by 2015, the city council passed this resolution in November 2007.

This applies to childcare for up to eight hours. Only the food costs, currently 45 euros per month, are payable if the child participates in the lunch program. The parental contributions for children under the age of three and for school children in the form of after-school care must also be paid after August 1, 2008.

With regard to the legal situation, the city's Children, Youth and Family Department points out that every child is entitled to attend a kindergarten from the age of 3, i.e. immediately after their 3rd birthday, on the basis of the law on daycare facilities for children (KiTaG).

Attending a pre-school facility is very important, emphasizes the specialist service. Numerous reports by experts confirm the success of early childhood education and training work. Parents should contact the respective daycare center with their childcare requirements. In cooperation with the providers of the facilities, the city ensures that care is tailored as closely as possible to the needs of the children.
