As part of a colorful program, Mayor Frank Klingebiel handed over the 4500 square meter facility for young visitors, which was built at a cost of around 300,000 euros, to its intended use. For him, one thing is certain: "The pirate camp will become a new attraction for south-east Lower Saxony in the child and family-friendly learning city of Salzgitter."
The program, which began at 1 p.m. and ended at 5 p.m., included the presentation of working groups of children and young people who were involved in the design of the pirate camp in the run-up to the event. There were handmade pirate signs and flags as well as a rehearsed performance, dance performances, a hip-hop group and song recitals by the St. Andreas daycare center and the elementary school on the lake. There were also hands-on activities such as face painting, treasure hunts, paddling and a play mobile. The event was presented by Radio ffn with Martin Jürgensmann.
The pirate playground is located in the immediate vicinity of the DLRG stadium, beach volleyball courts and the beach soccer pitch. It is structured by several dunes and differentiated according to age groups. The highest elevation reaches 2.50 meters. Some of the play equipment was specially made for the new playground by the manufacturer according to specified requirements.
The scenario of the pirate playground: During a storm, a pirate ship has run aground and broken into three parts, the stern, central mast and bow. The stern is close to the water, the mast with its basket towers over this area with the hoisted pirate flag and the bow leans steeply upwards. After stranding, the crew abandoned the ship using on-board equipment such as rope ladders, knotted ropes, ropes, boarding nets and planks.
The plateau of a large dune was fortified by a group of pirates with a defensive fence made of thick planks. A slide tower with two levels was built on it. A slide tube with a length of eleven meters and a height difference of 5.50 meters is the most attractive play equipment. Further equipment has been placed between the ship and the beach soccer pitch. Sand and water play equipment has been developed for younger children and there is a toddler climbing area.
