This topic is the central political concern of Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel. Behind this is the desire for families to choose Salzgitter as a place to live and work due to good family policy conditions.
Mayor Frank Klingebiel wants to make Salzgitter more attractive for children and families in the coming years with comprehensive childcare, equal opportunities for education, care for health, child and family-friendly urban development and good conditions for living, working and leisure in the city.
Sport and leisure as important feel-good factors are given high priority. The peaceful coexistence of people from different backgrounds is another topic in order to achieve the strategic goal in the interests of the citizens. The older generation, with its knowledge and experience, is also involved.
The first major steps have been taken with the appointment of the first full-time children's commissioner in Lower Saxony, free childcare for parents for all three kindergarten years, a comprehensive school renovation concept and a new trend-setting youth and sports promotion scheme. A catalog of further measures will be drawn up on the basis of a survey of the current situation.
This task will be coordinated by the Children and Families Officer, who reports directly to the Lord Mayor. Her remit also includes further networking existing initiatives, organizations, clubs and associations as well as developing projects and implementing them as part of a network.
"A city becomes child- and family-friendly to the extent that many partners actively work towards the goal," Frank Klingebiel is certain. The Lord Mayor sees this network in constructive cooperation between administration, politics, associations and business. "Such partnerships make progress possible for everyone involved," emphasizes Frank Klingebiel, citing the training offensive for scientific and technical professions that he launched with Region Braunschweig GmbH as an example.
But Salzgitter would also like to emphasize its position as a child and family-friendly city with special attractions: On September 20, 2008, World Children's Day, a 4500 square meter water playground in the form of a pirate camp was inaugurated on the eastern shore of Salzgittersee in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt with a children's and family festival.
