Mayor Frank Klingebiel, city councillor Christa Frenzel, local mayor Uwe Cyron, Detlef Dürrast (Wohnbau), Wohnbau supervisory board chairman Rolf Stratmann, Werner Maschke (local Johanniter representative), Christian Heinrich (Glück Auf Immobilien), Anja Wolfgram-Funke (BBS Fredenberg) were present at the ground-breaking ceremony.

Construction work has already begun right next to the BBS. The kindergarten should be completed by the end of the year and the first children will be admitted.

Wohnbau Salzgitter will construct the daycare center building. The city of Salzgitter will rent it for 30 years after completion, and the daycare center will be operated by Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe. The state of Lower Saxony is contributing 634,500 euros to the construction costs of 2.6 million euros, with the remainder being financed by funds from the daycare expansion funding program.

A model daycare center will be built as a teaching kindergarten and training facility for the BBS technical school for social pedagogy (FSP). The facility is to be integrated into the Fredenberg "school landscape" as a company daycare center for the schools. Joint projects between the school and the elementary sector will take place in both the daycare center and the vocational school. A stronger interlinking of theory and practice is planned.

The day care center is planned for 95 children in the form of three crèche groups for 15 children each and two kindergarten groups for 25 children each. An innovative and participatory concept, such as that found in Reggio pedagogy, is to be implemented in the daycare center. This means that the children should be able to develop individually and realize their own potential.

The following focal points are to be implemented:

1. reggio
2. gender approach with a focus on "more men in daycare centers" and teaching content
3. language education
4. multicultural sensitization
