Exemption from the ban on driving on Sundays and public holidays: approval

Description

Description

In Germany, trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tons and trailers behind trucks are not permitted to travel on Sundays and public holidays between midnight and 10 p.m..

The ban does not apply to the transportation of fresh milk, fresh meat and fresh fish or perishable fruit and vegetables, for certain combined rail-road freight transport up to a distance of 200 km or port-road transport up to a distance of 150 km.

Exceptions to the ban on driving on Sundays and public holidays can be granted under certain conditions.

Prerequisites

An exemption may only be granted if certain conditions are met, e.g:

  • supplying the population with perishable foodstuffs
  • Timely loading and unloading of sea-going vessels
  • maintenance of the operation of public supply or transport facilities.

An exemption permit is issued following a written application. Applications can be submitted by fax.
