For vehicles that were first registered at least 30 years ago, a red license plate (red 07 license plate) can be applied for. The date of the first registration is decisive. For license plates issued up to February 28, 2007, whose (possible three-year) time limit expires before the vehicle in question is 30 years old, there is grandfathering protection.

The red 07 license plate is an alternative to the H license plate and is particularly worthwhile if you own several classic vehicles. With the issued certificate, the vehicles registered under the 07 number can be used as often as desired. The number of the license plate begins with "07".

• Current identity card or passport with confirmation of registration - not older than 3 months

• Registration certificate part II

  • If no registration certificate Part II is available, the data sheet from a technical inspection authority and proof of ownership (purchase contract) must be submitted.

• List of vehicles for which a red license plate is requested

• Expert opinion in accordance with Section 23 of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) on the classification of the vehicle(s) as a classic car

• Information from the Federal Central Criminal Register Certificate of Good Conduct (document type O)

• Insurance confirmation for red license plates

• Confirmation that you wish to participate in classic car events and use the vehicles there

• SEPA direct debit mandate for the collection of vehicle tax

  • This must be submitted in writing and signed by the owner in the original upon registration, including by third parties. If the account holder is different, this mandate must be signed in the original by the owner and the account holder. Proof of the specified bank details must be provided.

  • Alternatively

    • a certificate stating that the main customs office waives the direct debit authorization or

    • proof of tax exemption

in the case of payment by a third party:

• informal, written power of attorney from the person making the application and identity card of the person for whom the vehicle is to be registered
