The city archive is the historical memory of the city and the administration. It fulfills the public task of evaluating the city's written records, taking over archival material, securing it permanently, making it accessible and making it available to all interested citizens. The city archive is also the contact point for the Ortsheimatpfleger (Ortsheimatpflege) of the city of Salzgitter, who were first appointed in 1987.
