When you re-register your place of residence, e.g. due to a move, you are registering a new place of residence.

If you move within Germany to a new municipality, joint municipality or town, you must register with the responsible office at your new place of residence. The responsible office in the new place of residence will then send a confirmation to the previous responsible office. Deregistration is carried out there automatically.

If you move within the municipality, joint municipality or city or if you move within a residential building, you must notify the responsible office within 2 weeks.

Comply with your obligation to register in order to avoid unnecessary problems and trouble. Failure to comply with the obligation to register can, for example, lead to problems with vehicle registration, obtaining a driving license or applying for a certificate of good conduct.
You will also need to change your identity card and, if necessary, your vehicle registration document.
