Youth work is an independent part of youth welfare. It performs the educational and training tasks in accordance with Section 11 of the German Social Code Book Eight (SGB VIII) - Child and Youth Welfare (KJHG) and represents the concerns and interests of young people in public.

Youth work should make young people aware of their shared responsibility in society, enable them to be more self-determined and give them an understanding of social commitment. It strengthens young people's ability to act on their own responsibility by tying in with their interests and allowing them to have a say.
