Residence permit for the purpose of training Extension for study preparation and study

Description

Description

The residence permit for the purpose of studying is limited in time. You can apply for an extension of your residence permit if you have not yet completed your studies but are able to do so within a reasonable period of time. The duration of residence is generally limited to a maximum of 10 years.

When deciding on the extension of a residence permit for the purpose of studying, the immigration authority can obtain and take into account statements from the university or other institutions approved for training or further education. This concerns questions about

  • Study requirements
  • Course of study
  • completion of studies
  • other academic matters

The same requirements apply for the extension of a residence permit for the purpose of studying as for the granting of a residence permit. In particular, your livelihood must be secured for the duration of your studies.

An extension is not possible if the immigration authority has already ruled this out when the permit was issued or when it was last extended.

In the event of an extension, your residence permit will be limited in time again. The residence permit for the purpose of studying will be extended by at least one year and usually by a maximum of 2 years. If your studies last less than 2 years, it will be issued for the duration of your studies.

With your residence permit for the purpose of studying, you may work for up to 140 days a year or take on a part-time student job for an unlimited period.
