Description
For a lifetime, you have been able to move around freely without the help of others. Suddenly, however, you need regular care, help from others, a barrier-free living situation and other support and assistance. Here are some of the possibilities.
Age-appropriate apartments:
These homes must meet special requirements; they must enable seniors to lead their daily lives without obstacles. These include, for example, step-free access to the apartment, wheelchair-accessible sanitary and kitchen facilities, ramps, stair lifts, non-slip floor coverings, grab rails in the bathroom and toilet.
Senior housing complexes:
While apartments suitable for the elderly are also individual apartments, senior housing complexes are several rental or owner-occupied apartments, often in combination with service offerings, care options and nursing facilities.
Care homes for the elderly:
Retirement homes, non-profit or private-commercial, offer full care by in-house staff up to and including heavy nursing care. The ratio of nursing staff to non-specialist staff is set out in the Home Staff Ordinance.
