The residence permit to complete a qualification measure is a temporary residence permit.

If you have not yet completed the qualification measures and your residence permit is about to expire, you can apply for an extension. Reasons for not yet completing qualification measures are, for example, if

• You have to wait a long time for examinations
• You have to repeat an examination

The same conditions apply for the extension of the residence permit as for the issue. In particular, your livelihood should be secured for the duration of your studies.

Your residence permit can be extended for 12 months. In total, your residence permit for qualification measures may not exceed 3 years.

An extension is not possible if the foreigners authority has already ruled this out when issuing the permit or the last extension.

With your residence permit, you may work up to 20 hours per week independently of the qualification measure.
