Applying for a residence permit to look for qualified vocational training

Description

Description

You can obtain a residence permit for the purpose of seeking an apprenticeship if you wish to complete a qualified vocational training program in Germany but have not yet found an apprenticeship position. Qualified vocational training refers to training in a state-recognized or similarly regulated occupation that lasts at least 2 years.

You must be under 35 years of age and must be able to cover your living expenses and health insurance without relying on public benefits.

During your stay, you may work up to 20 hours per week. Trial employment is permitted for up to two weeks.

You will be granted a residence permit if you:

  • have sufficient German language skills at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • hold a high school diploma that qualifies you for university admission or a diploma from a German school abroad

The residence permit for seeking a training position to pursue qualified vocational training is temporary. It can be granted for a maximum of 9 months.

If you are under 18 years of age, you need the consent of your legal guardians to stay in Germany while applying to a higher education institution.
