To engage in the commercial or independent trade of firearms or ammunition, you need a firearms dealer’s license. You can obtain this from the firearms authority responsible for your place of business.

Firearms dealing also includes the

• renting,
• auctioning,
• renting,
• pawning,
• storing, or
• transporting weapons and ammunition.

The firearms dealer’s license may be restricted to certain types of firearms and ammunition.

The license may be granted to

• natural persons (sole proprietorships)
• legal entities. In this case, the responsible managing director or the individual personally liable partners each require their own license.

If the firearms business is to be operated by a representative or if a person is appointed to manage a branch office or a dependent branch, then you will need a representative’s license. You must also apply for this with the competent firearms authority. Proxies receive this permit under the same conditions.

These requirements include, among other things, proof

• of legal age,
• good character,
• personal suitability, and
• professional competence.

Your permit will expire if you have not started the activity within one year of the permit being issued or if you have not carried out the activity for one year. These time limits may be extended for special reasons.
