Every dog owner is obliged to register their dog.

The obligation to register is regulated in detail in the respective municipal statutes. These regularly stipulate the obligation to register,

• if the dog is older than three or four months,
• when acquiring a new dog or moving in with a dog,
• when caring for or keeping a dog for a period of more than two or three months.

In addition, a separate entry in the dog register is required, which is notcarried out by the competent authority.
