Description
The Hauptschule comprises grades 5 to 9 and is an inclusive school at which a 10th grade can be established. Attending a 10th grade at the Hauptschule is voluntary.
Pupils receive a basic general education. Pupils learn basic knowledge. Pupils learn basic skills with all their senses. From the 6th and 8th grades, pupils choose a specific compulsory elective subject and can thus focus on subjects that correspond to their interests. English is the first foreign language from year 5. From year 9 onwards, mathematics and English are taught in the specialized courses G and E.
Pupils learn how to work independently. Pupils learn about professions. Pupils receive career guidance. Vocational orientation and vocational training measures are carried out for a total of at least 80 days (practical days).
At the end of the 9th school year, students can obtain the Hauptschulabschluss and the Förderschule certificate with a focus on learning.
Attendance of year 10 is voluntary.
The following qualifications can be obtained at the end of year 10:
- Secondary school leaving certificate I - Hauptschulabschluss
- Secondary school leaving certificate I - Realschulabschluss
- Extended secondary school leaving certificate I, which entitles the holder to attend the upper secondary level at a grammar school or a vocational grammar school at a vocational college, among other things
