Applying for an extension of the residence permit for recognition of professional qualifications during employment

Are you taking part in a qualification measure for the recognition of your foreign professional qualification and working at the same time? If you need more time for the qualification measure, you can have your residence permit extended.

Description

Description

You have a residence permit for the recognition of your professional qualification and are also in qualified employment in the profession to be recognized.

If your residence permit ends before you have completed the qualification measure, you can apply for an extension. You will then be given additional time to continue the post-qualification. The prerequisite is that you still have a job.

The residence permit to carry out a qualification measure with employment is limited in time and is initially issued for a maximum of one year. It can be extended for up to a total of 3 years.

You should apply for the extension in good time before your previous residence permit expires.

The same conditions apply for the extension of the residence permit as for the issue. In particular, you should be able to secure your livelihood for the duration of your stay.

The Federal Employment Agency may have to approve your employment again. It may, for example, check the content of the work.

Your residence permit cannot be extended if you are unable to complete your post-qualification within a reasonable period of time. It can also not be extended if the immigration authority has already ruled out the extension at the time of issue or the last extension.

You can work up to 20 hours per week in addition to your employment.
