If you want to keep dogs commercially in order to breed or trade with the animals or to train dogs for third parties, you must apply for a permit from your competent veterinary authority four weeks before taking up the activity.

It may take up to four months from the date of application for the permit to be issued, depending on the scope and the amount of testing required. In serious cases, this period can be extended by up to two months. You should therefore allow sufficient time for the permit to be issued before starting your activity.

You may only commence your activity once you have received the permit.

• Please ask the competent veterinary authority for application forms for a permit and which documents must also be submitted
• Informal application for a permit with the following content:
  • Type, number and sex of the animals to be kept or description of the intended dog training
  • Details of the person responsible for the activity
  • Information on the size and design of the enclosure to be built
• Certificates of competence for the respective persons handling the dogs
• Certificate of good conduct
• Sketch(es) of the enclosure(s)

Please note that you may only start working after you have received your permit and that the processing time can take up to 4 months (in exceptional cases up to 6 months).
