Register on the electoral roll for direct elections as a returnee

Description

Description

If you are German or a citizen of the European Union and you move to another municipality during the period of the Kommunalwahl, you are only entitled to vote for the mayor of the municipality you are moving to if you move three months before the election.
You must also be at least 16 years old on election day and not be disqualified from voting.

In addition to the substantive right to vote, participation in the election requires registration in the municipal electoral roll or a polling card.

If you have your (main) place of residence in the electoral area before the 16th day, you will be entered in the voters' register there ex officio if you meet the other requirements. A secondary residence in the electoral area is not sufficient for entry in the voters' register.

If you have not been entered ex officio due to a lack of a registered (main) residence, you can submit an application for inclusion in the voters' register up to the 20th day before the election.

From the 20th to the 16th day before the election, you can inspect the electoral roll during general opening hours. During this time, you can be entered on the electoral roll if you meet the requirements.
