Anyone moving to an inland waterway vessel that is registered in a shipping register in the Federal Republic of Germany must register with the competent authority.

The owner of a seagoing vessel that is entitled to fly the federal flag must register the captain and crew members of the vessel at the beginning of the employment, employment or training relationship.

The obligation to register ship's crews does not apply as long as these persons are registered for a residence in Switzerland.
