Funding under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG)

According to the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG), trainees receive individual support if they do not have the funds they need to support themselves and their training.

This enables the individual to pursue the training that he or she has chosen according to his or her interests and abilities, taking into account the family's financial situation.

Target group: Trainees in school education from grade 10 for general schools as well as in vocational school education.

If you would like to apply for funding as a student, please contact the relevant student services office at your place of study

Electronic application

Applications for training grants under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) can be submitted electronically via the BAföG-Digital portal ( https://www.bafoeg-digital.de/ (opens in a new tab) ).

The person submitting the application must register with the BundID and can complete each required form online and upload any supporting documents. Parents, spouses or life partners can also complete the forms online for the respective application in a separate area; access is via a link that the applicant can send by email.

The advantages are maximum security in terms of identity verification, digital application and communication with the BAföG office.

With regard to the e-file, an electronic application is in any case more advantageous for both sides and should be used as a priority. Submitting digitally completed forms by email is also advantageous, as the applicant receives a confirmation of receipt by email and the documents are also easier to read. In principle, it is still possible to submit applications in paper form, but this should be used as a secondary option wherever possible.

Note: At the start of the school year, a processing time of around 6 to 8 weeks can be expected due to the peak application phase. Submission of the complete documents is essential.
