The lecture
"The heart has its reasons, which the mind does not know", wrote Blaise Pascal back in the 17th century.
Science has long shied away from "reasons of the heart" or gut decisions like the devil shuns holy water. But, according to Prof. D. Gerd Gigerenzer: "Good decisions are often based on an unconscious intelligence that operates very quickly and is fascinatingly simple, especially in complex situations, and is far superior in recognizing the essentials and logical considerations. Today's knowledge of gut instinct is revolutionizing our image of the human mind."
In a complicated world, people learn to make decisions "from the gut", the art of living, paradoxically formulated, to know intuitively what is not worth knowing.
