Salzgitter

Kultur Land Kirchen - Art event series

There are many centuries-old churches in the Braunschweig region that characterize the towns and give them a spiritual, cultural and spatial center. The "Kultur Land Kirchen" project initiated by the Braunschweigische Landschaft connects eight church sites in Salzgitter and the surrounding area.

Scene from the short film "Haymat" by artist Atiye Noreen Lax

The churches in Barum, Cramme, Engerode, Flachstöckheim, Gebhardshagen, Groß-Flöthe, Heerte and Klein-Flöthe will be filled with visual art (painting, film, installation, sound, performance, photography) and music as part of the project day.
The project day will be ceremonially opened at 11 am.

In Salzgitter

  • The short film "Haymat" by artist Atiye Noreen Lax will be shown throughout the day at St. Nikolai Church in Barum. Having grown up between German-Turkish and Pakistani cultures, the exploration of questions of cultural affiliation, uprootedness and wanderlust is central to her work.
  • In the St. Petri Church in Heerte, the artist Matthias Langer will be showing photographic works that enter into a dialog with the church space. One of his analog photographs emerged from a shared meal with members of the congregation.
  • The starting point for the installation work by German-Polish artist duo Luis Kürschner and Patryk Kujawa in the church in Flachstöckheim is also the exploration of the space. They create fragile architectures, temporary arrangements and performative moments.
  • With their paintings, the artists Alwine Baresch and Nozomi Hasegawa enter into a dialog with the church spaces of the St. Nicolai Church in Gebhardshagen and the St. Marien Church in Engerode.
  • The illustrator Silke Schmidt will be in Gebhardshagen in the afternoon with her portrait machine and is looking forward to drawing the visitors.

The ADFC cycle route for the "Kultur Land Kirchen" project

The varied program, accompanied by culinary offerings and concerts, can be explored individually or as part of a tour guided by the ADFC Salzgitter by bike, so that the landscape can be experienced between the participating church locations.
