From Westerholz to Jammertal: on the trail of the town's history
The starting point of this approximately 10-kilometre hike is the Westerholz forest area on the northern edge of Hallendorf. Via the district of Hallendorf, the route follows the district heating pipeline in the direction of Lebenstedt to the Jammertal "foreigners' cemetery", which today fulfills an important function as a memorial and place of remembrance.
The focus of this themed walk is on the traces of Salzgitter's urban and industrial history under National Socialism that are still visible today, which have played a key role in shaping the cityscape and at the same time serve as a reminder of the critical debate surrounding it.
