The trademark of the Ghanaian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is his warm, earthy voice. Adjiri Odametey's melodious songs cross over effortlessly. He sees himself as an ambassador of authentic African music.
Adjiri Odametey grew up in Accra, the capital of Ghana. Influenced by his international impressions, he developed his own individual style. However, he never lost his roots in the tradition of his musically rich West African homeland. For his music, he uses rarely heard African instruments such as the African harp Kora, the thumb pianos Mbira and Kalimba, the Balafon with gourds as resonating bodies and Kpanlogo drums.
"Even if it's not easy for a German: you should remember this name," recommended the Süddeutsche Zeitung. With his unmistakable music, he created a place for himself in the international world music scene.
The term "world music" emerged in the 80s. Nowadays it is often replaced by the term "global pop". World music is no longer niche music, but can be described as the "sound of our time": Interactions between the most diverse styles and the availability of musical styles through digitalization have made world music a global phenomenon.
