The lecture
The lecture deals with the harmonic relationship between scientists, engineers and musicians over the past two centuries.
Scientists and engineers have given musicians and composers new possibilities for sound production and aesthetic design.
Examples include Wilhelm E. Weber's research into adiabatic phenomena and compensated organ pipes, Hermann von Helmholtz's contributions to acoustic resonance and the Steinway soundboard, as well as Friedrich Trautwein's work on radio fidelity and his invention of the trautonium.
The lecture will also focus on the collaboration between physiologists, physicists and piano teachers who wanted to improve the technique of piano playing.
