The city of Salzgitter is currently in the process of revitalizing its inner cities with the help of funding from the European Union and the state of Lower Saxony. To this end, the city was included in the immediate action program "Perspektive Innenstadt!" in September 2021, which runs from 17.06.2021 to 31.03.2023.
This funding program is part of the European Union's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and enables project financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
This revitalization of Salzgitter's inner-city centers is one of the central building blocks for the successful implementation of the project funded by the state of Lower Saxony. The aim is to enable new uses and qualities of stay in the inner cities, which have been severely affected by the corona pandemic, to contribute to digitalization and climate protection and to counteract the risk of increasing desolation of the inner cities.
The city of Salzgitter will receive up to 1.9 million euros from REACT-EU funds for the nine planned projects. The funding volume amounts to 90 percent, meaning that the city of Salzgitter has to contribute 10 percent itself.
