Description
Upon request, the civil registry office will issue you with certificates and certified copies from the civil partnership registry. If your civil partnership was entered into abroad, this civil status must have been retroactively registered once by the civil registry office in Germany.
You, your civil partner, or your direct lineal descendants may submit an application to the civil registry office for a civil partnership certificate. Under certain conditions and upon request, other individuals may also be issued a civil partnership certificate.
The civil partnership certificate serves as proof of the establishment of a civil partnership and contains the following information:
- Place and date the partnership was established
- First and last names at the time the partnership was established
- Place and date of birth of both individuals
- Gender of the civil partners
- Information regarding religious affiliation
What happens if your civil status information or that of the other person changes—for example, due to a name change or the dissolution of the civil partnership?
In that case, the responsible civil registry office will update the civil partnership record through a subsequent registration. Upon request, it will then issue you a new civil partnership certificate.
