Sexually transmitted infections can be fatal if they are not detected and treated in time. The earlier the treatment takes place, the better the recovery process.
Until now, the health department of the city of Salzgitter has offered the opportunity to be tested for HIV anonymously and free of charge. This service is being expanded to include tests for syphilis and hepatitis C.
In order to be able to treat an infection, you have to know that you have it. As many people are reluctant to get tested for sexually transmitted infections at their local doctor, the health department of the city of Salzgitter offers various testing and counseling options for HIV, hepatitis C and syphilis, which are free and anonymous.
The health department of the city of Salzgitter uses the so-called rapid test procedure: a possible infection can be detected within a maximum of 30 minutes using blood from the fingertip. Important: In general, however, the test is only meaningful if the risk (unprotected sex, used needles, etc.) occurred several weeks ago. This is because the immune system has only formed sufficient detectable antibodies after a certain period of time in the event of an infection with pathogens.
The team at the advice center provides information on this and much more, as well as on protection against sexually transmitted infections, safer sex, possible routes of infection and medical and psychosocial issues relating to sexual health. The team is subject to confidentiality and data protection.
Appointments for counseling and possible testing can be made at the social health service office by calling 05341/839-2031.
