The idea is simple and effective: citizens earn climate tokens in a fun way by acting in a climate-friendly way and can exchange them for attractive services and products.

The city of Salzgitter is taking part in this project with the support of the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association.

What is the Climate Thaler?

The Climate Thaler is a simple and effective idea to motivate all participants to save CO2 through their own behavior.

The Climate Thaler is an app with which all participants can collect Climate Thalers. Anyone who travels on foot, by bike or public transport receives Climate Taler, which can be used to redeem rewards at all participating stores or institutions in all participating municipalities.

There are also climate tokens for low electricity or water consumption.

A tangible reward! Participants can also see their own consumption and savings.

Important: Anyone who downloads the free app does not need to enter any data. Travel distances and all other climate-relevant information are collected anonymously and only evaluated quantitatively.

The special feature:

Everyone benefits when CO2 is saved! Participants receive specific rewards. The participating local retailers and companies have a new tool for customer loyalty and acquisition with the Climate Thaler.

Who is already taking part?

In Salzgitter, Bäder-Sport- und Freizeit GmbH, Touristinformation Salzgitter, Brillen-Shop Johanna Denecke (Salzgitter-Bad) and the Salzgitter City Library (at the book flea markets) are already taking part.

In the greater Braunschweig area, these include the city and district of Gifhorn, as well as Braunlage and Seesen.

Nationwide, more than 50 municipalities belong to the Klimataler network. Cities such as Aachen, Darmstadt and Hamm are already successfully using the Climate Taler app. But many smaller municipalities such as Königstein im Taunus, Leer in East Frisia and Meiningen in Thuringia are also already active.

The climate protection team is looking forward to more participants!
