Special location between city center and lake
In 2008, the Seeviertel was included in the urban redevelopment funding program. The proximity to Salzgittersee and Lebenstedt city center offers an opportunity for the area. The social infrastructure built up in recent years and the car-free inner zone of the district also offer qualities for family-friendly living.
In view of the situation described above, the city of Salzgitter has decided to initiate and implement a comprehensive, integrated and long-term urban redevelopment process in the Seeviertel district as part of the federal urban redevelopment program. To this end, an urban development concept was drawn up in 2007. In a second step, the urban redevelopment of the Seeviertel district was launched on site in January 2008.
Many structural and social measures were implemented
After eight years of local work, the fields of action described in the development concept are being implemented.
For example, the Seeviertel conference and the San working group have established a regular exchange between the stakeholders and work in the network. In addition to this, the Seevierteltreff run by the Diakonisches Werk in particular is integrated into the network work. This meeting place has been located in the Goethe School in the Seeviertel district since 2019.
The private building owners are involved in the process as important stakeholders and are actively participating in the renewal through specific construction projects that affect both the renovation of the buildings and the residential environment.
As a result, targeted owner activation has made it possible to initiate and promote private refurbishment measures, which have also resulted in a large number of privately funded refurbishment measures.
Further measures are being planned
In the public area, the lakeside path axis was extended. Work has also begun on extending the lakeside path. Play and recreational areas in the district are also being redesigned. Another project approach of the urban redevelopment is the improvement and adaptation of the infrastructure in the district and the upgrading and securing of local supplies.
Here, the first construction phase of the major 'Seeviertel shopping center redevelopment project' has been completed, with the second construction phase to follow. In addition to the urban development and housing industry approaches, socially integrative and image projects are also being developed and implemented as part of the urban redevelopment. For example, the annual summer festival in the Seeviertel district (at the Goethe School) and other projects. In summary, it can be said that the urban redevelopment process in the Seeviertel is running successfully.
