The container system will become the property of the city for a nominal amount of 1 euro - managed by the building management company. This was unanimously approved by the administrative committee of the city of Salzgitter today, Tuesday, August 26, as part of an urgent decision.
Fire Station II, built in 1960, is almost completely in need of renovation. Renovation and conversion costs of around four million euros have been calculated, of which around 1.8 million euros for the functional wing plus 785,000 euros for a replacement location in containers during the renovation and conversion phase.
The costs for dismantling, transportation, construction, connection, installation of the containers and the necessary infrastructure measures will amount to 550,000 euros with the alternative that has now been decided.
The facility consists of 34 containers, is two-storey, around 45 meters long and has a usable area of around 480 square meters. During the inspection by the specialist fire department and representatives of the fire department staff council, it was established that the entire facility is in very good condition.
It is five years old and equipped with all the necessary technical facilities such as heating, electrical distribution, toilets, etc. The rooms are bright and well insulated. The rooms are bright, well insulated, have central heating and large windows, so that the impression of being in a container facility is not created. The containers are very well suited to alleviating the structural situation of the functional wing at Station II in the short term and for at least 10 years.
According to calculations, the use of the BfS containers is 380,000 euros cheaper than the purchase of new containers and 2,045,000 euros cheaper than the conversion and renovation of the functional wing in the building. In principle, considerable costs and investments for the refurbishment and conversion measures will be saved in the short and medium term and the strained budget situation will be relieved.
