Facility with 34 office containers set up

Until Fire Station II in Salzgitter-Bad is renovated, a facility with 34 office containers will be used as a temporary solution over the next few years.

It is five years old, two-storey, around 45 meters long and has a usable area of around 480 square meters.

The facility is also equipped with all the necessary technical facilities such as heating, electrical distribution, toilets, etc.

The rooms are bright, well insulated, have central heating and large windows, so that you don't get the impression of being in a container facility.

"We were able to take over the containers from the Federal Office for Radiation Protection and thus improve the precarious situation at Station II," said Christa Frenzel, who welcomed the guests on behalf of the Lord Mayor.

The 34 containers were used by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection as office containers and were given to the city of Salzgitter free of charge by the Federal Office for Real Estate (BImA).

Frank Grunewald, Head of Building Management, spoke of a beneficial partnership for the city and the BImA. "We now have to ensure the bypass and make the interior winter-proof," he added. 550,000 euros have been budgeted for the entire construction project.

Once the firefighters have moved in, the containers will be used as offices, rest rooms, a training room and a sports room. "Now the gender separation in the sanitary facilities can finally be fully implemented," noted fire department boss Arne Sicks.

As the containers have an average useful life of 10 years, there is no time pressure for further planning. "We can now think about how to proceed with Station II," said fire department head Ekkehard Grunwald.

The entire preparatory phase up to the present time has been carried out in consultation with the employees and the staff council, whose feedback has been exclusively positive. The conversion work through to the move should be completed this year.
