Salzgitter

Construction work has begun

Following the ground-breaking ceremony on December 20, 2013 in the presence of Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, construction work has now begun on the restaurant on Salzgittersee.

The construction sign at Salzgittersee is inspected by guests.

Since last week, excavation work for drainage pipes and floor slabs has been underway on the approximately 1,500 square meter site.

The most difficult section: due to high levels of moisture in the bank area, stabilizing soil replacement is required at a depth of up to one metre. Foundations will then be laid and cellars built. The opening is planned for December 2014.

The entire population of Salzgitter and the surrounding area is already looking forward to the lakeside restaurant - a glass building with a sun terrace - along with the Lord Mayor. The costs amount to around 1.5 million euros.

Design of the lakeside restaurant.

Once completed, 120 guests inside and up to 200 more on the sun terrace will be able to enjoy food and drink as well as the magnificent view over the beach and lake to the Salzgitter mountain range. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served daily at affordable prices: Good home-style cooking - from currywurst to steak.

The concept for Salzgitter is based on models such as Pier 21 in Hanover, the Colombian pavilion at Allersee in Wolfsburg or the Café del Sol restaurant chain, which conveys southern flair in a vacation atmosphere.

With its extensive range of sports, leisure and recreational activities, Salzgittersee is one of the most popular lakes. The season will be officially opened on Sunday, April 27, by the local clubs from 11 a.m. A handy leaflet will also be available again from the beginning of April, providing comprehensive information about the lake.
