Salzgitter

Plans become more concrete

At its meeting on 21 July, the majority of the administrative committee decided on project variant "10a" for the modernization and expansion of the Salzgitter-Lebenstedt indoor swimming pool.

The committee thus followed the recommendation of the Supervisory Board of Thermalsolbad GmbH (TSB), which was also approved by a majority vote.

The external appearance of the alternative project is a structured building that does not push itself to the fore with its structure. In contrast, the building of the other alternative "10c" with its large entrance area has a much greater presence for the viewer.

The architect responsible deliberately chose an exterior façade - for both variants - that makes reference to the Salzgitter steel location with its "metallic" surface. The façade is to be provided with a powder-coated surface that presents itself to the observer in special visual and color effects depending on the location.

In both variants, the sports pool and slide system of the existing indoor pool remain unchanged and enable the required continued operation of the existing pool with the indoor swimming pool.

During the construction phase, the indoor swimming pool will be refurbished (wall closure on the eastern side) to ensure its continued use during the construction phase of the first construction phase (BA).

The area with the current teaching pool will be completely demolished.

The 1st BA includes in particular

  • a teaching pool (100 m²) with a moving floor
  • an attraction pool (328 m²) 25 m long with 4 swimming lanes
  • water areas with bubble loungers and massage jets
  • a toddler area and a bistro
  • a newly designed entrance area
  • a changing area and sanitary facilities

Longitudinal section.

The teaching pool with a moving floor is considered necessary because it can be used for swimming lessons as well as the highly popular aqua fitness courses. The fitness courses can only be held in deep water, whereas the swimming courses should be held in shoulder-deep water.

The fitness courses currently take place in the swimmer's pool, which leads to restrictions for swimmers. Once completed, the other new water areas will allow the public, schools and clubs and their special interests to come together. The new toddler area and the pool bistro complete the range of facilities for users.

The total investment in the construction project amounts to around 13.2 million euros (net).
