Salzgitter

Reactivation of the rail link to Fredenberg

In March 2015, the Lower Saxony state government announced plans to reactivate three former railroad lines, including the "Salzgitter-Lebenstedt - Fredenberg".

As nothing further has happened on this topic since then, despite the fact that Hanover was supposed to have provided further details by summer 2015, the Salzgitter City Council will take action on March 16, 2016. The topic will then be on the council's agenda. According to a resolution, the city of Salzgitter should immediately consult with the Zweckverband Großraum Braunschweig (ZGB) as the responsible body for ÖPNV.

The aim is for the ZGB to commission an investigation into the extension of the route from Salzgitter-Lebenstedt beyond Hüttenring to John-F.-Kennedy-Straße on Fredenberg as quickly as possible in coordination with the state government. This should also examine whether an additional stop should be set up.

On March 2, the local council of the northern district will already be debating this issue.

In addition to the Salzgitter line, the state government intends to reactivate two other connections:

  • Einbeck - Salzderhelden
  • Neuenhaus - Bad Bentheim
