At its meeting on June 15, the Salzgitter City Council decided this by a large majority, after the city parliament in Braunschweig had already given its unanimous approval on May 3.
A joint working group with members from both administrations will now be set up. Its task is to present a feasibility study that includes, among other things, a profitability analysis and time planning.
In their resolutions, both committees also refer to a further component of the review: "Exclusion of settlements that are connected to the planned processing and/or storage of nuclear waste in Schacht Konrad."
The new industrial estate is to be built north of the A 39 at the city border between the two regional centers. The transport links there are almost ideal with the A 39, the Beddingen marshalling yard, the Beddingen port and the freight village.
The proposal for a review was put forward jointly by Lord Mayors Frank Klingebiel and Ulrich Markurth in April.
