Salzgitter

Stiddien-Beddingen industrial estate

The feasibility of an inter-municipal commercial and industrial area between the cities of Braunschweig and Salzgitter is being examined.

Planned industrial estate of the cities of Braunschweig and Salzgitter.

At its meeting on June 15, the Salzgitter City Council decided this by a large majority, after the city parliament in Braunschweig had already given its unanimous approval on May 3.

A joint working group with members from both administrations will now be set up. Its task is to present a feasibility study that includes, among other things, a profitability analysis and time planning.

In their resolutions, both committees also refer to a further component of the review: "Exclusion of settlements that are connected to the planned processing and/or storage of nuclear waste in Schacht Konrad."

The new industrial estate is to be built north of the A 39 at the city border between the two regional centers. The transport links there are almost ideal with the A 39, the Beddingen marshalling yard, the Beddingen port and the freight village.

The proposal for a review was put forward jointly by Lord Mayors Frank Klingebiel and Ulrich Markurth in April.
