To ensure that traffic can flow during the entire construction period, the C&A side of the road has been widened first.
As part of this redesign and ongoing construction work, traffic is expected to be switched to the new lane during the afternoon of November 8. The Globushaus side will then be widened.
On this side of the Globushaus, there will be a spacious pedestrian promenade into which so-called tactile guiding strips will be integrated. Thanks to their own surface structure, these guide strips provide better orientation for the visually impaired.
36 trees, lights, benches, bicycle stands and other furniture round off the ambience. The renovations represent a significant upgrade of the public space.
On the Globushaus side, work on the promenade between Gotha- and Joachim-Campe-Straße will begin in November 2016 and continue into 2017. Mobile traffic lights will ensure that traffic flows as smoothly as possible during the entire construction period.
Between the post office and Gothastrasse, a continuous footpath will remain in front of the buildings so that all stores can be reached. The crosswalk to the city center at Passage will remain open. From November 7, the "Rathaus" bus stop will be relocated to Joachim-Campe-Straße near the land registry office.
The entire construction work is the second construction phase of the "Albert-Schweitzer-Straße conversion" project. The first construction phase between City-Carrée and WEVG was completed in 2007/2008.
